Thai alphabet reference chart

The 44 Thai consonants (phayanchana) in dictionary order, from Ko Kai (ก) through Ho Nokhuk (ฮ), with each consonant's acrophonic name, glyph, and RTGS-style initial-sound transliteration (e.g. Ngo Ngu — ง (ng)). The set keeps the two obsolete consonants ฃ (Kho Khuat) and ฅ (Kho Khon) to complete the traditional 44. Vowel signs (sara), tone marks, and other combining marks are excluded so each entry maps to one glyph.

Learn the Thai alphabet

Thai is written in an abugida of 44 consonants (phayanchana), from Ko Kai (ก) through Ho Nokhuk (ฮ). This page pairs a full reference chart — acrophonic name, glyph, and RTGS-style romanization — with a self-scoring flashcard quiz so you can drill letter recognition. It is useful for anyone learning to read Thai, whether for language study, travel, or teaching. Vowel signs (sara), tone marks, and other combining marks are left out so each card is a single consonant glyph; the two obsolete consonants ฃ (Kho Khuat) and ฅ (Kho Khon) are kept to complete the traditional 44.

How the quiz works

Each round shows one Thai consonant and four possible names. Pick the name you think matches; the quiz marks it right or wrong, reveals the correct answer with its romanization, and keeps a running score, current streak, and best streak for the session. Because several consonants share a sound (for example the many spellings of "kh" and "th"), the quiz keys on each letter's unique name. Press Next letter for a new card or Reset score to start over. Every glyph and answer choice is selected with the Web Crypto API, entirely in your browser.
