The 12×12 multiplication table

The multiplication table — the times tables — lists the product of every pair of factors from 1 to 12. Read it as a grid: pick the first factor down the left column and the second across the top row, and their product sits where the row and column meet. The table is symmetric across the top-left-to-bottom-right diagonal because multiplication is commutative: 3 × 7 and 7 × 3 both equal 21. The shaded diagonal marks the square numbers (1, 4, 9, 16, … 144), where a factor is multiplied by itself. Memorising this 12×12 grid is one of the foundations of mental arithmetic, and it underpins long multiplication, division, fractions, and factoring later on.

Drilling the times tables

The flashcard quiz turns the chart into practice. Each round draws a random a × b fact and offers four possible products — one correct answer and three plausible near-misses, like an adjacent row or an off-by-one product — so guessing is hard. Pick an answer and the quiz marks it right or wrong, shows the correct product, and keeps a running score, current streak, and best streak for the session.
