What is a tarot birth card?
Your tarot birth cards are the Major Arcana cards worked out from your date of birth. Unlike a random tarot draw, this is a calculator: the same birthday always gives the same result. The method returns two cards — a Personality card, which reflects your outward strengths and the way you meet the world, and a Soul card, which points to a deeper lesson or inner drive. When your Personality number is a two-digit Major Arcana number (10 through 22), reducing it to a single digit reveals the Soul card that sits beneath it; when it is already a single digit, the two are the same card. Treat it as a lightweight prompt for reflection and fun rather than a prediction.
How your birth cards are calculated
Add your birth month, day, and four-digit year together as whole numbers, then reduce that total by adding its digits until it lands in the range 1–22. That number is your Personality card in the Major Arcana. For example, someone born on November 25, 1954: 11 + 25 + 1954 = 1990, and 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 19 — The Sun. To find the Soul card, reduce the Personality number to a single digit: 19 becomes 1 + 9 = 10, then 1 + 0 = 1 — The Magician. Two special conventions apply: a total that reduces to 22 is read as The Fool (Major Arcana 0), and the 19 → 10 → 1 chain links The Sun, the Wheel of Fortune, and The Magician for anyone whose Personality card is 19.
Personality card vs. Soul card
The Personality card is the higher, two-digit number (or the single digit itself) and describes how you show up — your talents, your reputation, the energy others notice first. The Soul card is that number reduced to a single digit (1–9) and describes the underlying purpose or lesson you carry through life. People whose birthday already reduces to a single digit have one card that is both their Personality and Soul card, which is often read as an especially focused, undiluted expression of that archetype. This calculator uses only the 22 Major Arcana and upright meanings — it does not draw the 56 Minor Arcana or reversed cards.
